Lesson Summary
Throughout this course, a case study will be utilized to guide the development of GIS data collection forms, data collection, and map creation processes. Let's introduce the case study:
- A water resources management organization in Malawi aims to assess the shortage of portable water in an area.
- To achieve this, they plan to collect GIS data of water points like boreholes and water kiosks.
- Information required includes the number of people served, operational status, and water flow rate of each point.
- The organization will create a data collection form using KoboToolbox, then gather data from sites using mobile devices.
- Collected data will be imported into QGIS to generate a thematic map visualizing the data.
The data collection form has already been developed in Microsoft Word, covering details like water point name, type, condition, flow rate, served population, and GPS location.
Throughout the course, the progression from creating the form in KoboToolbox, actual data collection, input into QGIS, and thematic map development will be demonstrated using this case study as the central example.
